Poison Poetry Workshop "I am, For the Blind"

Blessed, I had the privilege of being a part of a workshop hosted by the Art of the Soul Organization in preparation for their Poison Poetry: I am, For the Blind event which is being held at 6.30pm on Friday the 22nd of February at the Alliance Francaise in Gaborone. The event is being held to raise money for the visually impaired and all proceeds will go to the Lephoi Centre for the Blind in Francistown. Performers will be reciting their poetry blindfolded in solidarity with the visually impaired. The workshop consisted of young artists and performers doing several voice and body warm ups and playing a few games to break the ice and get to know each other. Thew were then divided into pairs and one was blindfolded while the other let them on an adventure around the Alliance Francaise premises before swapping. The artists left with a new found appreciation for the privilege of sight. The workshop was led by Onkemetse Sebenyane who is also the creator and chairperson Chairperson, alongside Vice-Chairperson, Kgotla Molefe. The Secretary is Morongoa Mosetlhi who is assisted by the Vice-Secretary, Rorly Sherwen. Their mission is to effectively gather prospective youth and put our talents to use together in innovative and productive means, to ensure results and to place the prospect back into the hands of our future leaders. They are avid supporters of the arts and aim to be a big mobilising factor for Batswana youth.

Inside Out: Heart

Blessed, The first Inside Out show of the year was held on Saturday the 16th of February, and our theme was Heart. We started out keen as beans thinking it would be light and fluffy and gooey and filled with butterflies. What we actually found out was that the Heart was a lot deeper than we had initially expected. February is filled with expectations, every restaurant has dinner specials, every florist is a buzz, every shop, mall and TV ad is red red and red. We ended up with a very raw, very emotional, very honest show. The pictures will never do the performances justice but I hope you enjoy them.
